PONY CLASSES – Friday 26th July
RIDING PONY YOUNGSTOCK

Mrs A Hogg’s Challenge Cup presented by Mrs A. Hogg for the Champion in the Riding Pony Youngstock Section.

The Welsh Pony and Cob Society will present a Special Rosette to the highest placed registered Welsh Part-bred Pony in the Riding Pony Youngstock Championship. All class winners are eligible to compete.

The NPS / Betty Skeet Memorial Show Pony Home Produced In Hand National Championship      

Open to registered Show Ponies not to exceed 148cm at maturity, which are either stabled at home or in a DIY yard and which since 1st January in the current year have not been shown by a producer or stabled in a producer’s yard other than on a DIY basis or at stud. Ponies shown in these classes must be produced and shown by the owner/spouse, or his/her immediate family, who does not derive income from working with ponies or horses.  Please see NPS Rule Book, Sec A, 3.6. Please enter this class in the spirit it is intended. Competitors who contravene the above will be disqualified.

The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified.

BROOD MARES

The Edale Trophy presented by Mrs Marlene Young, Manderston Stables, Duns, for the Champion Brood Mare.

The Craiglea Challenge Trophy presented in memory of W.K. McGowan, Craiglea Farm, Greenlaw will be awarded to the Champion Foal.

Class 7 is also a qualifier for the NPS / Area 10 Show Pony In-Hand Supreme National Championship 2019.

TEVIOT RING – NO. 1 HIGHLAND PONIES IN-HAND

Strathleven Challenge Trophy presented by Miss H. Hamilton, Whitehope, Innerleithen, for the In-hand Champion.

A Highland Pony Society Rosette will be awarded to the In-hand Champion.

NPS / Kilmannan Stud M&M In Hand Silver Medal Rosette Championship

(To be Judged by Mrs M Taylor).  See the NPS Silver Medal Championships Conditions in this schedule.

The NPS /Equestrian Marketplace M&M In-Hand National Championship.

The highest placed pony, if owned by NPS members, in each class will qualify for the final.

This Show is a qualifier for the NPS Scotland / Townhead Pet n Pony In-Hand M & M Championship.

This show is a qualifier for the 2019 Highland Pony Society Youngstock Championships. The highest place youngster in Class 10 will qualify for the Highland Pony Youngstock Championships to be held at CSHPC Summer Show at Strathallan Castle on Sunday 1 September 2019 and the Rare Breeds of the Year Show at Arena UK, Grantham on Saturday 5 October 2019. The qualifying exhibitor can select which Championship Show they wish to enter. Exhibitors are not required to be members of the Highland Pony Society for qualifying classes. The qualifying card goes to the first prize winner. If that pony has already qualified, the card then passes to the second placed pony but no further.

TEVIOT RING – NO. 1 RIDDEN HIGHLAND PONIES

The Ednam House Trophy, presented by The Ednam House Stud will be awarded to the Champion.

NPS / The Standinghat Stud & Show Team M&M Ridden Silver Medal Rosette Championship.

A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the best registered pony owned by an NPS member in the M&M Ridden section.  (See NPS Silver Medal Championship Conditions in this schedule). (To be Judged by Mr D Puttock).

The NPS /Ringside Stud M&M Open Ridden National Championship.

The highest placed pony, if owned by NPS members, in each class will qualify for the final.

Qualifiers are entitled to compete in either the NPS / The Standinghat Stud & Show Team M&M In-Hand Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show in Malvern, or at the Championship Show in Scotland. Qualifiers may only compete in one final.

A Highland Pony Society Rosette will be awarded to the Ridden Champion.

This Show is a qualifier for the NPS Scotland / Baileys Horse Feeds Open Ridden M & M Championship.

Classes 11 and 12 may be amalgamated if insufficient entries in either or both classes are forward.

TEVIOT RING – NO. 1 MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND NOVICE RIDDEN CLASSES

Judge: Mrs J Jack, Leven, Fife.

Judging to commence after the Ridden Highland Classes at approx. 1.00 p.m.

The NPS / Picton Stud M&M Novice Ridden National Championship

These classes are judged under the rules of the NPS.

Open to pure bred registered M&M stallions, mares and geldings four years old and over.

A pony is not eligible to compete if, before 1st January in the current year, it has done any of the following:

  • Won an open affiliated mixed M&M Ridden class
  • Qualified for HOYS, Olympia or RIHS Open M&M Ridden classes
  • Qualified for the M&M Novice or Intermediate Ridden final at the NPS Summer Championship Show (N.B. Ponies can compete as novices in this competition for two consecutive year provided they do not submit an entry to the final in the first year)
  • If a pony qualifies for HOYS, Olympia or RIHS in its second year it is de-noviced and cannot compete in the NPS/ Picton Final or the NPS Scotland/ Kilmannan Stud Novice Final.

Ponies must be shown in a snaffle bit.

NPS/Hy-Equestrian Young Rider Championship Qualifier – for rider up to 25 years.

The highest placed eligible pony not already qualified in each of the classes will qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show in 2019.

This Show is a qualifier for the NPS Scotland / Kilmannan Stud Novice Ridden Mountain & Moorland Championship.

Shetland Pony Stud Book Society Rosette will be awarded to the best registered Shetland Pony.

Veteran Horse Society – QUALIFIER 2019.

This is a qualifier for the Veteran Horse Society Supreme Final:

Each VHS affiliation in Scotland now holds a PRE-QUAL Supreme Final qualification

Open to members and non-members.

VHS Scottish Supreme (Pre-Judging) Final qualification. Only Members may qualify.  Qualification is given to the highest placed VHS Member in each age category no lower than 3rd place. VHS Show registration Card is to be produced and handed to the judge in the ring as verification of the qualification.  VHS  Membership to be applied for no later than 1 week prior to this show, to avoid disappointment.

All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS 2019 Rule Book in all circumstances.  Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification. 

Mountain & Moorland.  The highest placed Member in each age category exhibiting an M&M will receive entry to the pre-judging of the Mountain & Moorland Supreme Final.  This may-be carried down to 4th place. To be registered with a Breed Society and hold a current Breed Society passport. Show Registration Card to be signed by the judge in the ring.


NEW FOR 2019 Young Rider & Handler Championship qualification.  A Young Rider and/or Handler qualification will be awarded to the young rider/handler of the Judge’s choice in each age category, entitling them to enter the Young Rider/Handler Pre-Qual Championship Prior to the Supreme Final This award is given at the Judge’s discretion. Non Members to receive an orange card.

VETERAN IN-HAND, COMBINED AGE CLASS (15 years and over).
To be run as one class but judged as separate age categories:
Diamond Veteran (25 years and over), Veteran (20–24 years) & Pre-Veteran (15–19 years). Open to horses and ponies of any breed and height. 

The highest placed Member from each age category will go forward to the Supreme Scottish Pre Qual Championship.  Not lower than 3rd place.

VETERAN RIDDEN, COMBINED AGE CLASS (15 years and over).
To be run as one class but judged as separate age categories:

SHETLAND & EXMOOR

The Transy Trophy, presented by Mr D. Dick, Devonshaw House, Dollar, will be awarded to the best Shetland Pony.

The Haig Douglas Perpetual Challenge Trophy, presented by the late Mrs Peggy and Haig Douglas, for the best Exmoor Pony In-hand.

Shetland Pony Stud Book Society Rosette will be awarded to the best Shetland Pony in each class.

Shetland Pony Stud Book Society - Classes must be confined to Registered Ponies.  Ponies must be named on the entry form and in the catalogue if one is produced.  Society rosettes must only be given to ponies registered with the Society or eligible for registration (i.e. foals).

Three year old fillies with foals at foot may not be shown.  All foals must be a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the Show.  All entire males aged 2 years and over must display a stallion disc.

There must be no colts or entire males in Young Handlers classes.  Children under 14 yrs old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in In-hand classes.  In the interests of safety, hard hats must be worn by all handlers aged 14 yrs or under in In-hand classes. Exhibitors should not kneel but remain standing while in the ring. 

Exmoor Pony Society Rosette to the best registered Exmoor Pony.  Exhibitor must be or become a member of the Exmoor Pony Society.

DARTMOOR * SHOW

The Toffee Cup presented by Mrs M.G. Furness, Abbey House, Oldstead, to the best Dartmoor Pony from Classes 38 & 39.

The Rushfield Quaich presented by the Anderson Family, Nether Stenries, Carrutherstown, Dumfries, for the Champion In-hand Dartmoor Pony.

Dartmoor Pony Society ‘Star Show’ Rosette for the best registered Dartmoor Pony exhibited by a member of the Dartmoor Pony Society. Current membership card to be produced in the ring.

A Special Rosette will be awarded to the Best Foal in Class 36 by a registered Dartmoor Stallion.

Classes 38 & 39 may be amalgamated if entries in either or both classes are insufficient.

DALES & FELL

Leithenwater Challenge Trophy presented by the late Miss J. Brooke, Innerleithen to the best Fell Pony.

A Special Rosette offered by the Dales Pony Society for the best registered Dales Pony shown by an exhibitor who produces a current membership card in the ring.

CONNEMARA & NEW FOREST

The Sydserff Challenge Trophy presented by Mrs T. Simpson, Highfield, North Berwick, to be awarded to the Champion Connemara Pony.

British Connemara Pony Society Special Rosette for the best registered Connemara Pony owned by a Member.

This Show is a qualifier for the British Connemara Pony Society Tam O’Shanter Championship.

The three highest placings of each age group – Connemara yearlings and two year olds – will qualify for the Tam O’Shanter Breeding Championship. (6 qualifiers).

The three highest placings – Connemara Mares – will qualify for the Tam O’Shanter Breeding Championship.  (3 qualifiers).

This Show is a qualifier for the British Connemara Pony Society Young Handler Championship (a) 12 years and under, (b) 13 – 18 years.

Border Union Rosette for the best Foal in Class 42.

Please note – No Pony exceeding 148cms may take part in these classes.

If sufficient entries Class 43 may be divided.

NPS/ LITTON STD Show Hunter Pony In Hand Silver Medal Rosette Championship             

A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the best registered pony owned by an NPS Qualifying or Life member in the Show Hunter Pony In Hand section.  (See NPS Silver Medal Championship Conditions in this Schedule).

Classes may be amalgamated.  Ponies eligible for the Championship final at the NPS Summer Championship Show is the highest placed pony from each class, if owned by NPS members, for show ponies not exceeding 153cm at maturity.  Qualifications may pass down to third.

CONNEMARA

British Connemara Pony Society Special Rosettes for the best registered Connemara Pony owned by a member who must show their membership card in the ring.  Rosette cannot to be awarded below 4th place.

This Show is a qualifier for the British Connemara Pony Society Rosmeen Ridden Championship – 2019.

Please note – no pony exceeding 148cms may take part in this class. (BCPS Rules)

The NPS/ RINGSIDE STUD M&M Open Ridden National Championship

PART-BRED

Waxwing Challenge Trophy presented by Waxwing Stud, Dunfermline, for the best Part-bred Pony.

Classes 55 & 56 are qualifiers for the NPS/ MOLE VALLEY FARMERS Part Bred Ridden & In Hand Qualifiers.

WEST RING COLOURED HORSES

Judge: Mr S Somers, Newmarket, Suffolk.

Judging will commence at 8.30 a.m.

This Show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK) Affiliation No. 19065.  Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS (UK) nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS (UK) to compete.  However in order to Qualify both Owner and Rider/Exhibitor need to be a current showing member and present their valid Qualifier card IN THE RING for signing by the judge.  Members to apply in writing to CHAPS (UK) for appropriate qualifier card.

The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held on 28th August – 31st August 2019.  Shows held on or after the Postal Entry closing date of the Championship Show will count as 2020 qualifiers.   

The following classes are CHAPS (UK) Qualifiers (57 – 65). For full rulings and information on competition/ qualification, please refer to the CHAPS (UK) Members’ Handbook; or visit www.chapsuk.com for rulings.  Only Skewbalds/Piebalds may compete these Classes.

All stallions, 4 years old and over entering these Classes must be graded with CHAPS (UK). All stallions must wear Stallion ID Discs in the ring without exception.

All 1st and 2nd prize-winners in Classes 57-65 are eligible for the Coloured Championship.

If insufficient entries, these Classes may be amalgamated.

MAIN RING WORKING HUNTER PONIES

Judges: Mrs D Atkinson, Newmarket, Suffolk. (Jumping)

Miss F Reed, Auchrertool, Fife. (Conformation)

Judging will commence at 8.00 a.m.

The South Laws Cup will be awarded for the best Working Pony – Classes 68 – 71.

The R. Hunter Murray Challenge Salver, will be awarded for the best pony 15hh and under owned and exhibited by a resident of the Scottish Borders Region.

Conditions:

  • A horse or pony may only compete in one of classes 68 – 71.
  • No change of saddlery is allowed between phases in a class.
  • Protective leg boots only may be used for Phase 1.
  • No bandages, no over reach boots or protective pads on pony / horse legs or feet are permissible.
  • NO SPURS

 

Marking :

The NPS/Area 25 M&M Novice Working Hunter Pony National Championship

To be run under the rules of the NPS.

Open to registered pure bred M&M stallions, mares and geldings, four years old and over.  Riders may only ride one pony in each class.  Ponies must be shown in a snaffle bit.  A pony is not eligible to compete if, before 1st January in the current year, it has done any of the following:

  • Won an open NPS affiliated M&M WHP class
  • Won a class at an M&M WHP (HOYS or RIHS) qualifying round
  • Qualified for the NPS M&M Novice or Intermediate WHP final at the NPS Summer Championship Show
  • Qualified for an M&M WHP final at HOYS or RIHS in previous years or in the current year

(N.B. Ponies can compete as novices for two consecutive years provided they do not make an entry in the final in the first year).

Judging will commence after the M&M Novice WHP at approx. 12.00 p.m.

This show is a qualifier for the NPS/ TOPSPEC M&M Working Hunter Pony Championship.  The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS Qualifying or Life Member, in the M&M Working Hunter Pony class will go forward to the final which will take place at the NPS Summer Championship Show in Malvern in 6th – 8th August 2019.  Qualifications to go no lower than 3rd place.

The Duchess of Sutherland Challenge Cup will be awarded to the Champion.

Major T.H.C. Cox Silver Cup will be awarded to the Reserve Champion.

The Welsh Pony and Cob Society offer a Performance Medal to the highest placed Welsh Pony or Cob. All animals must be registered or entered in the appropriate section of the Welsh Stud Book, although medals can be awarded to non-members.

W.P.C.S Special Rosette to the highest placed Welsh Pony or Cob.

Fell Pony Society Rosette to the best registered Fell Pony in Class 78 exhibited by a member of the Fell Pony Society. Membership card to be produced in the ring.

The 2 highest placed ponies only down to 4th in each class not already qualified will qualify for the NPS Scotland / Kingfisher Building Products M & M Open WHP Championship.

Height of jumps as per NPS Handbook Guidelines for M & M WHP Championship.  Ponies must be the correct height for their breed and be unplaited.

Open to registered pure bred M&M stallions, mares and geldings, five years old or over.

WEST RING SHOW HUNTER PONIES

Judges: Miss D Atkinson, Newmarket, Suffolk.

Judging will commence at approx. 1.00 p.m.

The Rosepark Trophy, donated by Mrs C. Nelson, will be awarded to the Champion Show Hunter Pony.

Classes 80-83 are qualifiers for the NPS Kellythorpe Stud Open Ridden SHP National Championship.

MAIN RING PONY CLUB INTER – BRANCH TEAM JUMPING

Judge: Mrs N Young, Cleish, Kinross-shire.

Commencing at approx. 2.00 p.m.

Ponies of Britain Salver will be awarded to the best Junior Team.

Ponies of Britain Challenge Cup will be awarded to the best Senior Team.

Prize money per Team in each class: First £28, Second £20, Third £12.

Judging: Teams of 3 or 4. This will be judged as a single-phase competition over a course of 12-14 jumps.  The second half of the course will be timed as per a jump off.  The best 3 scores will count.

New for 2019 – the collecting and practice area will be in the West Ring.

This is an INTER – BRANCH Competition. Entries should be forwarded by an OFFICIAL OF THE BRANCH, who need not name their team members until Declaration at 11.00 a.m. on Friday 26th July. Teams may be made up on the day from different branches to compete H.C. at the discretion of the chief steward. Dress code : Tweed Jackets and Branch Colours.  The course will consist of a mixture of rustic and colour fences.

 

Entry Fee: £20 per Team.
