SHEEP - Saturday 27th July
BELTEX SCOTTISH NATIONAL SHOW

Judge: Mr J Young, Alford, Aberdeenshire.

Beltex Scotland Cups and Quaich will be presented to the Overall Champion and Reserve, Best Pair and Best Opposite Sex.

BORDER LEICESTER

Judge: Mr W Sandilands, Ancrum, Roxburghshire.

The Centenary Challenge Cup will be awarded to the Best Exhibit.

The James Mauchlen Trophy will be awarded to the exhibitor gaining most points in this Section as follows : Champion; 5 points, Reserve Champion; 4 points, 1st; 3 points, 2nd; 2 points and 3rd; 1 point.

The Society of Border Leicester Sheep Breeders Special Prize, for the Best Border Leicester Sheep in Show, registered or eligible for registration in the Border Leicester Flock Book and not having won one of these prizes earlier in the year. The winning exhibitor must be a fully paid up member of The Society of Border Leicester Sheep Breeders.

This Show qualifies for the Exhibitor of the Year Award.

LLEYN

Judge: Mr J Dugdale, Settle, North Yorkshire.

SUFFOLK

Judge: Mr A Gray, Lanark, Lanarkshire.

The Silver Cup, presented by Messrs Wm. Bosomworth & Sons Ltd., won outright in 1978 by J. Walton & Sons, and re-presented, will be awarded to the Best Exhibit.

The Hugh Fraser Silver Salver, presented by Mrs Fraser, will be awarded to the Best Opposite Sex to the Champion.

The Suffolk Sheep Society Rosette will be awarded to the Best Exhibit from a registered flockowner.

The Scottish Area Branch of the Suffolk Sheep Society Male & Female of the Year. The branch will supply a Male Champion and Female Champion Rosette which will be awarded to the highest placed MV Accredited Scottish male and female forward at each show, selected by the show judge. Each animal winning either of these rosettes will be allocated points and this will be continued throughout the show season and points accumulated. The Overall Male and Female Champion of the year will be decided based on the number of points an individual animal wins at the end of the last show.

The Perpetual Challenge Trophy, presented by Lawrie & Symington Ltd., will be awarded to the Best Exhibit.

The Bell Salver, presented by R H Bell, will be awarded to the best Opposite Sex to Champion.

ZWARTBLES

Judge: Mr J Stevenson, Saltburn-By-The-Sea, North Yorkshire.

The Charles Scott Perpetual Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the Champion Sheep.

The Eildon Hill Salver will be awarded to the Best opposite sex to the Champion.

Judge: Mr G Hamilton, Hawick, Roxburghshire.

Breed of Sheep MUST be stated on Entry Form.

PRIME LAMBS (MV)

Judge: Mr G Hamilton, Hawick, Roxburghshire.

Judging will commence after Any Other Breed classes.

Breed of Sheep MUST be stated on Entry Form.

Lambs must be forward for weighing by 9 a.m. and will be re-allocated to their classes by weight if necessary.

BLACKFACE

Judge: Mr R Paterson, Crieff, Pethshire.

 

The Silver Cup, presented by Messrs J. L. & W. Arnott, will be awarded to the Best Exhibit.

The Silver Cup, presented by the late A. McTurk, MRCVS, will be awarded to the Best Opposite Sex to Champion. Won by Sir John Gilmour in 1968 and re-presented.

Blackface Sheep Breeders Rosette will be awarded to the Champion

BLUEFACED LEICESTER

Judge: Mr I Minto, West Linton, Peeblesshire.

 

The Scots Gap Cup, presented by T.A.S. Thomson, Esq., will be awarded to the Best Exhibit.

A Plaque will be presented to the Champion by the Bluefaced Leicester Sheep Association if there are more than 40 entries in this Section.

CHEVIOT

Judge: Mr S Anderson, Hawick, Roxburghshire.

 

The Centenary Challenge Cup, will be awarded to the Best Exhibit.

The Tom Rogerson Trophy will be awarded to the Best Exhibit of the opposite sex to the Champion.

The J. Bibby Perpetual Challenge Cup, presented by M.A. Robertson, Esq., will be awarded to the Best Group consisting of Ram, Ewe, Gimmer and Ewe Lamb.

The Cheviot Sheep Society - Flock of the Year Competition (refer to the Society Website for details).

HEBRIDEAN

Judge: Mrs H Brewis, Sherinton, Newport Pagnell.

 

The Kelso Town Challenge Cup, presented by Kelso Town Council, in commemoration of the visit to Kelso of the Royal Highland Show in 1952, will be awarded to the best exhibit in the Hebridean Section.

The Ronasvoe Cup, presented by Cathy Cassie will be awarded to the Champion.

The Etal Trophy presented by Lord Joicey, will be awarded to the Reserve Champion.

JACOB

Judge: Mr A Leggate, Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

The Redpath Cup, presented by Miss Redpath, Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh, will be awarded to the Champion.

The Harbell Trophy, presented by M&M Harper of Cavers, Hawick, for the Best Pair from Class 249.

LAIRG TYPE CHEVIOT

Judge: Mr R MacDonald, Grantown-on-Spey, Moray.

The W & J Thomson Cup, presented by W & J Thomson, for the Champion Lairg Type Cheviot.

The North Country Cheviot Sheep Society will award a Champion Rosette and Special Prize to the best registered exhibit.

Judge: Mr R Strawhorn, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire.

The Centenary Challenge Cup, will be awarded to the Best Exhibit.

Silver Salver, presented by Messrs Andrew Oliver & Son Ltd., will be awarded to the Best Exhibit.

The Clackmae Cup, presented by the late Will Hogg, Clackmae, will be awarded to the Best Group consisting of Ram, Ewe, Gimmer and Ewe Lamb.

The North Country Cheviot Sheep Society will award a Champion Rosette to the best registered Exhibit.

North Country Cheviot entries – Signing the entry form declares that all your exhibits, other than lambs, have been bare-clipped in accordance with the rules of the N.C.C. Sheep Society.

SCOTCH HALF BRED

Judging will commence after the Border Leicester Classes.

The Centenary Challenge Cup will be awarded to the Best Exhibit in the Scotch Half Bred Section.

The Silver Cup, presented by the late P.S. Short, Old Graden, will be awarded to the Best Pen of Scotch Half Bred Ewe Lambs, (Class 273).

The Silver Challenge Cup presented by Messrs Andrew Dunn & Sons, will be awarded to the Best Exhibit in the Scotch Mule Section.

SHETLAND

Judge: Mrs N Turner, Bury, Lancashire.

 

The A C Burn Shield, presented by A C Burn Ltd, Agricultural and Animal Health Specialists, Berwick-upon-Tweed, will be awarded to the Breed Champion.

The Frances Fish Cup, presented by Mrs F Fish, Eckford, to the Champion Coloured Shetland Sheep in Show.

The Frances Fish Cup, presented by Mrs F Fish, Eckford, to the Champion White Shetland Sheep in Show.

Shetland Sheep Society will award Special Rosettes to the Breed Champion and Reserve Breed Champion.

SUFFOLK – Non MV

The Cessford Motors Challenge Cup will be presented to the Champion.

Judge: Mr G Hamilton, Hawick, Roxburghshire.

Judging will commence after MV Prime Lamb Classes.

 

The Silver Cup, presented by R.E. McAlpine Esq., Silverknowes, will be presented for the Best Pen of Prime Lambs.

Breed of Sheep MUST be stated on Entry Form.

Lambs must be forward for weighing by 9 a.m. and will be re-allocated to their classes by weight if necessary.

YOUNG HANDLERS COMPETITION

Judge: Mr A Kennedy, Broughton, Biggar.

Judging will commence at 1.00 p.m. (after the Sheep Interbreed)

 

This Section is kindly Sponsored by W & J Thomson, Kelsocleugh, who will supply prizes of £5 for first, £3 for second, £2 for third and £1 towards each entrant, outwith the prize winners, in both classes.

The sheep handler must not have attained their 16th birthday on the date of the Show. They will be judged on their ability to show any breed of lamb from any breed of sheep.

FLEECE COMPETITION

Hog and Ewe Fleeces eligible.

Fleeces to be rolled and secured in manner recommended by the Wool Board.

Points awarded for Style, Character, Uniformity of Length & Fibre Fineness, Handle, Colour and Presentation.

 

The Stewart & Ramsden Trophy for the Champion Fleece.

British Wool Sheep Breeders Book will be presented to the Reserve Champion Fleece.
